Wekas are 'cheaky', exhibiting little fear of humans. They stride into campsites, stealing cheese from camper's bags and tables, and even attempt to drag away pots and pans.
In Punakaiki New Zealand, I sat on the floor in a cafe photographing a weka as he ran around the dining room. The man in shorts, busy on his phone, had a surprise when the weka plucked his hairy leg!
Later, the same weka dashed out of the kitchen carrying an empty ice cream cone.
And in the video, another weka visits my yard, and entertains us with his antics.
